The Kirkuk Journal of Medical Sciences is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal established in 2013 as the Journal of Kirkuk Medical College and renamed in 2021 to reflect its expanded scope. It is published by the University of Kirkuk, a governmental university based in Kirkuk City, Iraq
The journal initially published one volume with two issues annually (2013–2014), then one issue per year (2015–2020). From 2021, it returned to two issues per year, released in April and October. In 2025, it continues with one annual volume containing two in-progress issues: Issue 1 (January–June) and Issue 2 (July–December) to avoid delays for accepted papers.
As an open-access journal following the BOAI definition, it allows free use and sharing of all content without permission. Manuscripts are checked for originality using iThenticate and undergo double-blind peer review to ensure quality and ethics.
The journal accepts original research, reviews, commentaries, letters to the editor, images in clinical practice, and case reports in medical sciences. It is self-funded and receives no financial support from governmental or non-governmental bodies.
