Revision of Article Processing Charges (APC) Effective 1 January 2027

The Editorial Board of the Kirkuk Journal of Medical Sciences would like to inform authors, reviewers, readers, and the academic community that the journal’s Article Processing Charges (APC) will be revised effective 1 January 2027.

As part of the journal’s continuing efforts to maintain high standards of scientific publishing, editorial management, peer-review administration, production, online publication, digital preservation, indexing, and journal development, the APC for article categories currently subject to publication charges will increase from 150,000 Iraqi Dinars (IQD) to 300,000 Iraqi Dinars (IQD).

The revised APC policy will be applied as follows:

International Authors

No Article Processing Charge (APC) will be charged when all authors of the manuscript are affiliated with institutions outside Iraq.

Manuscripts that include mixed Iraqi and international affiliations will not be eligible for this exemption and will be subject to the applicable APC.

Therefore, the current APC exemption for manuscripts whose authors are entirely affiliated with institutions outside Iraq will remain unchanged after 1 January 2027.

Iraqi Authors

Effective 1 January 2027, the Article Processing Charge for the following article categories will be 300,000 Iraqi Dinars (IQD):

  • Original Article: 300,000 IQD
  • Review Article: 300,000 IQD
  • Clinical Trial Article: 300,000 IQD
  • Perspective, Opinion, and Commentary: 300,000 IQD
  • Case Report: 300,000 IQD

The following article categories will remain free of Article Processing Charges:

  • Letter to the Editor: Free
  • Image in Clinical Medicine/Clinical Practice: Free
  • Editorial (by invitation): Free

Accordingly, the increase applies only to article categories that are currently subject to an APC. Article categories that are presently published free of charge will continue to remain free after 1 January 2027.

Effective Date

The revised APC of 300,000 IQD will take effect on 1 January 2027.

Until 31 December 2026, the currently applicable APC of 150,000 IQD will remain in effect for article categories subject to publication charges.

Submission Fees

Kirkuk Journal of Medical Sciences does not charge any fee for manuscript submission.

There will continue to be no submission fee under the revised APC policy. The APC is a publication-related charge and is separate from manuscript submission and the editorial or peer-review process.

Waiver Policy

The journal does not provide an additional APC waiver policy for manuscripts that are otherwise subject to publication charges.

However, manuscripts in which all authors are affiliated with institutions outside Iraq will continue to be exempt from the APC in accordance with the journal’s policy for international authors.
